Penis Enlargement
(Phalloplasty) Surgery
How surgery aspires to give you a bigger penis
Questions & Answers
What is penis enlargement surgery?
Penis enlargement surgery, technically known as phalloplasty, is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to increase either the length or the girth of your penis, or both.
What are the different procedures that are currently available?
Procedures include:
-
Injecting the penis
This is a procedure whereby fat cells are harvested elsewhere in your body and subsequently injected into the shaft of the penis. This treatment may increase the width of your penis, but not the length. The results of this procedure may be unsatisfactory because the shaft usually does not have much fat so the appearance may not be entirely natural. In addition, the fat injected may be redistributed by the body. Less scrupulous doctors may offer to inject your penis with silicon or PMAA Poly(methyl methacrylate), but this is not to be advised due to side effects including a deformed penis and the inability to have sexual intercourse. Penile injections of silicon are likely to be irreversible.
Some doctors use other fillers to increase the girth of the penis. Thus far, more favourable results have been achieved using autologous tissue engineering. A biodgradable "scaffolding" is used which is absorbed leaving no foreign tissue in the penis.
Alloderm has been used by some surgeons, but its use as a cosmetic filler has not been approved by the FDA. The manufacturer of Alloderm does not recommend it for use in enlarging the penis. (Allodern is made from the flesh of dead bodies.) -
Cutting the ligament
About 40% of the penis lies inside the body. If the ligaments which hold the penis in position are cut, the penis can stick out further from the body. In general, the length of the penis can be enlarged in the region of one inch by this procedure, but there is a great deal of variation from individual to individual. After surgery, the penis needs to be stretched in order to prevent the shortening of the ligaments as they heal. Note that the penis will not stand proud when erect once the ligament has been cut.
Over two thirds of men who have undergone the above procedure have been disatisfied with the results.
Is it a good idea to consider any of the above procedures?
No. Your lack of penis length is most likely a problem only inside your own head, and it is not worth the risk of any of the above procedures, as you might well end up worse off than when you started.
